Farnborough Falcons U14 RL lose narrowly in thrilling opener. The time of year has come round again when the young falcons pull on their boots and do battle with crème of the south youth Rugby League teams. The first game of the season was always going to be explosive with the Falcons travelling over to Elmbridge. With some good pre season prep behind them, the young Falcons took to the pitch with a smaller than wanted team, however the pride of the guys on the field was evident and clearly made up for the lack of others even with 5 debutants having never even played rugby league before. Straight from the whistle, you could see the game was going to be a hard fight with neither team scoring for a ten minutes or so, with hits from debutant Charlie Millard shaking the Elmbridge side to realise this wasn’t going to be easy. Elmbridge managed to get on the score board soon after, but with calm heads the Falcons came back hard to even up the score. The game proceeded to be cat and mouse going in at half time with the score all square. Shortly after the start of the second half Elmbridge hit quick with two try’s only for the falcons to regroup and repay the favour, with the likes of Aaron Morgan, Debutants Harry Millard and Ryan Jones running in hard and fast to rock the Elmbridge defences. Settling down Mikey McDonald started to run at Elmbridge and cause real problems for them, with another debutant Samuel Ogilvy and man of the match Rhys Amos backing up with aggressive front running and an inspiring show of defence. With neither team showing good form with the boot to convert the final whistle went with Elmbridge edging out victors with the narrow win 22 points to 20. With a massive round of applause and great comments of development from all round the Young Falcons left the field of play with their heads held high ready for the next challenge.
