Farnborough Falcon RL U13s take the game to Hemel Stags 20th April 2008

Once again, the Farnborough Falcons U13 Junior Rugby League team travelled to gain valuable match and team experience in playing their second rugby league game. What a beautiful day for a game of fast, heavy hitting tackles, full contact attacking and defensive rugby league by both teams.

Unfortunately, the Falcons supporters had a gruelling time in severe weather conditions, Summer shirts, sunglasses, summer chairs and of course the obligatory cold drink. Even Tommo, one of the Falcons coach’s braved the elements to reveal the winter white legs wearing the shorts of hope through out the morning. What hardships the Falcons supporters are enduring !. Is the Summer finally here for the supporters ?.

In the first half, the Falcons were assisted with 3 very experienced Elmbridge players. The Falcons game plan was a structured one, defend in team numbers, protect in team numbers, regroup and then attack as a team whilst maximising on support from all within the squad. The game was end to end with great breaks and team work from both sides. The second half was as exciting as the first, great play with excellent tackling and set plays. A swap over of borrowed players and the Falcons were flying again. A great game to watch with scores from Elmbridge and several first and second half, well earned attacking moves and try attempts by the Falcons. Well defended Elmbridge. Elmbridge steadily persevered to add points to their score whilst the Falcons maintained composure, effort and true spirited team work. A big thanks to Elmbridge for their hospitality and of course, the BBQ food and refreshments.

The newly formed and trained Farnborough Falcon Juniors travelled to Hemel Stags for their first U13 Rugby League fixture. The morning weather was bleak but the squad arrived with commitment and valour ready for their first run out against a well established and respected Hemel Stags team. Once warmed up by assistant coach Mike “Tommo” Thompson, the lads were ready, keen and fully aware of their game plan and tactics. The supporters gathered on the touch line, eager to watch the lads begin their first ever rugby league game, coffee in one hand and a bacon roll in the other. An awful situation for any supporter to endure !. Tommo gave a final team talk in the changing room and the time was upon them. The lads returned to the pitch, single file, donned in their club colours, concentrated and focused about the job in hand. The two teams made their kick off positions, the whistle blew, the Falcons were off and beginn ing their new playing careers. Ball to hand, tackle by tackle, a kick for attack, the long chase and defence, the turn over ball, the reforming, defence and attack, the Falcons took their game to the experienced Stags. The game was fast flowing, swift ball movement and true rugby league tackling, end to end both teams gained. Half time came, the team talk continued, the players with tentative ears, eager for the second half.  Through game experience, the Stags steadily persevered to add points to their score whilst the Falcons maintained composure, effort and true spirited team work. The final score line represented a great game with the Stags overseeing the Falcons by 44-0.

The Falcon junior’s play superbly as a team, never letting anything frustrate or aggravate them. They just kept playing their game in full spirit, learning, adapting, defending and attacking. On a wet and grey Saturday, the Falcon Juniors travelled away to the Ravens new Princes Park Stadium in Dartford, an experience of playing in a full stadium as the support game prior to the afternoon's senior game against Norwich Saxons. 
Once on the pitch, the Falcons gathered their composure, warmed up in the rain and the game was on. Both the Falcons and Ravens teams were fired up and raring to get stuck into their first rugby league game together. The whistle blew and the Falcons took flight taking an early command of the game with determination and fantastic rugby league play. The tackling was superb by the Falcons, retreating when required and advancing with speed and ambition. The Falcons maintained composure and patience slowly grinding away at the Ravens defence and power. After several plays, the Falcons opened their score sheet with outstanding play and creativeness. The conversion sealed the points and the Falcons were set to go again. Wave after wave of full league tackling kept the Falcons spirit. They kept to their game plan and moved the attacking line forever forward against the Ravens who were maintaining a heavy defensive and team play. The rain never once stopped both teams moving the ball swiftly with good hands. With continual heavy advancement into the Ravens half, the Falcons spread the ball wide on attacking play with the onset of well deserved tries and conversions. The Ravens made an impressive comeback reversing the Falcons tactics to defence but as one of their coaches explained "the Falcons are brilliant at modifying the game plan to adjust to defensive play and they know how to regroup and reassess their attacking game. Today was a tribute to the Falcons to do exactly that, defend hard, regroup and attack at the slightest opportunity with speed and power. For their first season as a Rugby League team, the lads are brilliant and they should all be very proud of themselves". The Falcons maintained strength, team work in numbers and full spirit of league rugby throughout the game with exceptional play and tactics. Well done to the Falcons for their 48 - 20 victory and a huge thank you to the Kent Ravens for their hard work, team effort and hospitality.
The Falcons supporters were privileged to watch such a fantastic game of rugby league from the dry stadium terraces and club house with the added bonus of hot drinks and food. What hardships for such loyal supporters to endure. The Falcons Juniors would like to say a huge "thank you" to all for their support and assisting with the travel arrangements.
The sponsor of the Falcons Juniors was present for the game and added "great team work and congratulations to such a spirited team of Falcons players.

Farnborough Falcons Rugby league Juniors Triumphant against Kent Ravens 18th May 2008

The Farnborough Falcons U14/13 development squad took the next step of their Rugby League education when they took on the experienced and talented Brixton Bulls U14 team at home, Farnborough RFC.

The game started in storming fashion with the Bulls throwing everything at the home teams try line. The line was only broken on the last tackle. The Falcons came storming back with powerful running from Sam Sims, Alex Schofield and Jacques Pienaar. The deepest attack was started by Calum Francis down the right channel and supported by Tom Woodruffe. A booming Brixton kick was diffused by Ed Smart who faced down 3 Bulls to protect the ball and stop a try.

Half time gave a chance for Coach Mike Thompson to inspire all his players. Tom Woodruffe carved up the Brixton defence for a 40m gain and Sean Culligan flew to within 2 metres of the try line. Talented scrum half Michael McDonald danced along the line with only determined defence keeping him out. On the 4th tackle James Banks received the ball and charged over the whitewash in the left corner, becoming the first Junior Falcon to score at home. Aaron Watkins and Ben Spoors put in many strong tackles while Sameer Virani was charging forward with his team mates for the whole game. Farnborough’s great team work kept the opposition working to the end of the game. The powerful and experienced Bulls, who have blanked teams this year, end the game on the back foot but winners. 62-4. Well done to the Falcons squad for 110% effort and spirited team work.
